Camping on Lake Garda

In 1950, Carlo Simoni inherited a terraced plot of land overlooking the lake, originally a vineyard, and decided to transform it into a campsite.

He began by marking the land with olive trees, creating pitches to host the first European traveling tourists, attracted by the opportunity to visit local olive oil mills and wineries. Thus, Camping Porto was born, the first campsite in Moniga and perhaps the entire Valtenesi. Within a few years, the campsite became a popular destination, and Carlo was joined by his children Mariarosa, Giacomo, and Piera in managing the structure, which had meanwhile been expanded to include a reception, a bar, and a few caravans.

In 1978, after Carlo’s passing, his son Giacomo took over the business with his wife Elisabetta and their young son Nicola. During his management, the campsite’s bathroom facilities and power outlets were modernized, with outlets moved to individual pitches rather than being placed on lampposts.

In 1999, Nicola took over the management of the campsite. Quickly, the bathrooms were renovated, lakeside pitches and green areas were improved, and a swimming pool, mini club, and playground were built. Additionally, a fire protection system was installed, and new accommodation options such as mobile homes and equipped tents were introduced to meet the needs of an ever-evolving market.

Today, Camping Porto continues its history under Nicola’s management, keeping alive the tradition of hospitality and innovation that has distinguished it for over 70 years.
